“Insurance for your Hair”

Updated: May 29, 2018

This amazing product has taken the salon and hair industry by storm. Olaplex is a repair system that brings your hair back to life. This is not like any other treatment you find in the drug store, where it only lasts maybe one or two washes. When using Olaplex you are actually rebuilding the hair from within, they call this a “bond multiplier”.

I hear it all the time in the salon, ‘why does my hair feel so dry after bleaching?’ or ‘It almost doesn’t feel real anymore, what can I do to help bring my hair back to life?’ And ‘is there something that last longer the a couple washes?’ I always say you have to start treating the hair the moment your start colouring or changing the texture of the hair.

Its comes in a kit with three different steps:

Step1: The Bond Multiplier: Which is the most important step of the three. If you are bleaching your hair this is step is added to the bleach so that it’s treating your hair and reforming the disulfide bonds while the bleach is lifting your hair. (This step can also be used without any colour just on it own.) Remember to carefully read the instructions on the box and follow the steps based on the length of hair that you are working with.

Step 2:The Bond Perfector: Once you have finished bleaching your hair, thoroughly rinse out your hair (do not shampoo!) and apply the Bond Perfector immediately all over the hair and leave it on minimum of 5 minutes or longer (personally I leave it on for about 30 minutes). This is not a conditioner, it has the same active ingredients as the Bond Multiplier but in a cream form for easy application. This is used to help seal the remaining disulfide bonds for best results. After 30 minutes you rinse, shampoo and condition.

Step 3. The Hair Perfector: The third step is for at home use, this step is meant to be used once a week for best results. If your hair is very dirty, shampoo an towel dry hair, then apply a generous amount of No.3 all over hair and leave on as long as you can, the longer its on, the better. Then shampoo and condition hair. Note: that this product specifies that it should not be used as a conditioner or leave in as it strictly says in the instructions that it needs to be shampooed and conditioned out of the hair.

Step 1 and 2 are the most important steps if you are using this at home. The price point for the Traveling Stylist kit is $160.00 and you get steps 1 and 2. Step 3 is only important if you are getting this done at a salon. I know it is pricey at first but this kit is ideal for someone with shorter hair and you get many uses out of it. Even if you are not colouring your hair its good to use both steps on coloured hair once a month. If you are someone who consistently colours their hair this is a must have for you.

Unfortunately this product isn't sold in your local beauty supply store as its professional use only. If your considered about using it yourself at home, be sure to ask your hairstylist or google any salon in your area to find out which carry olaplex or do olaplex treatments. If your more experienced with hair or a stylist, you can definitely find online, such as amazon or if you live in the greater Toronto area, you can purchase it at cosmetic world located at 623 Yonge St.

I hope this helps. Let us know in the comments below how this worked for you!
